The Various Types of Fishing Lure Hooks

One of the most essential tools for fishing is that of the fishing lure. While the lure is important in that it helps to attract fish it should be noted that these lures will be useless without the right hooks. In fact, hooks have been used in fishing for thousands of years. There are all sorts of types of fishing lure hooks that can be used for these lures.

The purpose of the hook is to be able to catch the fish. The hook will be used to attach onto the end of the lure. The hook will attack the fish in the mouth so that its body will be caught with ease. Of course, the hook will generally keep the fish from getting harmed, thus being useful in areas where catch and release fishing laws are used. After all, if natural bait is used with these hooks the fish will be more likely to be killed on impact.

Different types of hooks come in all sorts of sizes. There are two different methods of size measurement for these hooks. When a hook has a number between 32 and 1 the smaller numbers will have the largest hooks. This means that a size 30 hook will be significantly smaller than a 22 hook. Other companies will use sizes from 1/0 to 19/0, where 19/0 is the largest size of hook. These is referred to verbally as “(number) aught.”

The eye is another part of the hook that is different according to all types of hooks. The eye is where the hook connects to the line. A ring eye can be used in some types of hooks. This is where the hook works with strength in mind. A tapered eye can be used as a means of reducing weight as well. Some hooks have no eyes but are flattened so that snelling of the leader onto to hook can be used.

Single, double and treble hooks are also used among the tools for fishing. A single eye has one shank and point. A double hook has one eye with two shanks and points. A treble hook has the eye with three shanks and three points that are spaced apart from one another at the same distance.

The last of the things about these tools for fishing involves the shapes of these hooks. A floating worm hook is steeper in angle. A saltwater jig hook is round in shape. A saltwater bend back hook is one that features a slight bend at the end of the hook. There are other types of shapes besides these too, and it is best to check at a fishing supply store for full physical details on all of these types to see which one is right for particular types of fish.

All sorts of types of fishing lure hooks are used in fishing. There are hooks that have different shapes and numbers of points. Also, hooks come in various sizes. Be sure to visit a local fishing supply store for additional details on these tools for fishing.
