Surface Fishing Lures

Most fishing lures will work under the water, but there are also some open air fishing lures that have proven to be effective. This is especially the case for fish that live in shallow areas or in the upper areas of bodies of water. The surface fishing lure is one of the best lures to use for these types of fish. This lure can simulate prey for fish that can make it easier for one to catch a fish.

The way that these open air fishing lures work is simple. Unlike a typical fishing lure, which will go into the water, the surface fishing lure will stay on the surface of the water. It is generally light in weight and made of either wood or plastic. This is why the lure is able to stay on the surface of the water as well as it can.

All sorts of different movements can be simulated through this fishing lure. The movements that can be used in this lure include twitch, pop, lock, waddle and drop movements. This makes for an especially versatile lure.

The way that these movements work for the lure is that it is used as a means of simulating movements of common types of prey for shallow water fish. These examples include frogs, mice, moths and smaller fish that have been injured and are easy prey. Because of these movements it will be easier for the fish to be able to be caught.

The treble hook is the main type of hook that is used for this lure. This is a much deeper type of hook in that it curves at a greater angle. A double hook in this type can be used if desired. This is where a single eye of a hook is merged with two different points and shanks.

Different types of movements can be used as well. Specific materials will be needed for these movements though. For instance, for a waddling lure a metal dish should be at the front of the body. Also, for a popping movement the face should be cupped and carved into the front part of the lure.

What makes these open air fishing lures exciting is that they are able to create some good impacts. A good sized fish will easily startle a fisherman by creating a good splash when going after the surface lure. This makes for some exciting action.

The surface fishing lure is one of the best types of open air fishing lures to use. This type of lure works to catch fish that live in shallow areas of water or in low depth water areas. All sorts of different movements can be created through this lure as well.
